Balcony over the Val di Cornia Valley

A cycling itinerary through the woods and olive groves surrounding Suvereto. Between Prata and Belvedere, the path offers a natural balcony overlooking Val di Cornia. Exploring the hills around Suvereto, pedalling between Prata and Belvedere, immersed in nature amongst woods and olive groves. The first part is an easily-pedalled climb and then mostly downhill on dirt road to Suvereto, with fine views over the Val di Cornia valley.

At the heart of Val di Cornia

A flat route through the fertile Val di Cornia, retracing the sites of the 802 AD battle against Saracen pirates, winding between Casalappi Castle and the vineyards of Monte Peloso. A mainly flat route on the fertile plains around the river Cornia river, following it to its mouth. After crossing the river and the small rural hamlet Casetta di Cornia, you ride past Campo ai Mori, the scene of a battle in 802 A.D., when the local population fought the Saracen pirates who had enacted the Sack of Populonia. The route continues through olive groves and vineyards towards the castle of Casalappi and the hamlet of San Lorenzo, returning to Suvereto after a ford on the river Cornia, running through beautiful vineyards on the slopes of Monte Peloso.

Valley and hills

A smooth itinerary through Val di Cornia and the Colline Metallifere, crossing the vineyards of San Lorenzo and Casalappi before climbing the hills of Campiglia Marittima. An easy route that reveals the wide Val di Cornia valley, going further afield than route 4 (which is not practicable when the river Cornia is flooded). The first part of the route follows the harmonious landscape between Suvereto and the Metalliferous Hills. Vineyards are a constant feature of this short but particularly lovely journey that runs through the hamlets of San Lorenzo and Casalappi. At Cafaggio, you cross the provincial road and move into the hills that characterise the landscape between Campiglia Marittima and Suvereto. A short stretch on a dirt track leads back to the Suvereto plains.

From Val di Cornia to Sassetta

A 30 km loop alternating between the dense woods of Sassetta and Suvereto and the sunny expanses of Pian delle Vigne, featuring a scenic climb that is a "must" for all cyclists. Great views and beautiful roads for this approximately 30 km loop that winds through the woods of Sassetta and Suvereto and the open, sunny setting of Pian delle Vigne and the Val di Cornia valley. The road up to Sassetta is a must for all cyclists, offering unforgettable scenic views.

Maremma air

A loop celebrating the wild essence of Maremma, winding through the villages of Canneto, Monteverdi Marittimo, and Sassetta, culminating in a thrilling descent toward Suvereto. Jets of steam and hot water springs, fumaroles and bubbling mud (in the Sasso Pisano area) but above all the magical solitude of an extraordinary landscape ideal for cycling enthusiasts.

Towards Massa Marittima

A full immersion in the Maremma atmosphere along spectacular, secluded roads, leading to the medieval heart of Massa Marittima and through the steamy Colline del Vapore. You pedal through swathes of wild nature on lonely roads a world apart from major tourist influxes. The “Marsiliana” is a secondary road that encapsulates the essence of Tuscany. Massa Marittima is a medieval town that merits an extensive visit. The journey continues through the Colline del Vapore (Hills of Steam) via Monterotondo, offering magical sensations.

The Etruscan Coast

From Val di Cornia to the sea, this route visits the parks of Rimigliano and San Silvestro, the Gulf of Baratti, and Populonia, offering stunning coastal views and thermal relaxation in Venturina. From the Val di Cornia valley towards the coast overlooking the blue contours of the Tuscan archipelago and Corsica. Tahis is an itinerary of great scenic value, bringing you to medieval villages and places of outstanding natural interest such as the parks of Rimigliano and San Silvestro. Baratti is a piece of coastal Tuscany that is well worth the trip, and the detour to Populonia offers a stunning panoramic view of the coast and the chance to visit the medieval village and the Archaeological Park. An epic 188 km journey through the heart of Etruscan Tuscany, starting from Suvereto and reaching Massa Marittima and Volterra amidst rolling hills, historic villages, and roads perfect for cycling. A true journey into the heart of a Tuscany well worth experiencing and exploring. This is a long route (almost 200 km) to be covered in stages. If you are a cycle-tourist, we recommend planning 3 or 4 sections: the roads are wonderful and there are many places to stop. Suvereto is the starting point for “navigating” amidst the waves of land, woods and countryside that create a landscape with a strong identity. The circuit has its main points of historical interest in the towns of Massa Marittima and Volterra, which themselves are worth the trip. From a naturalistic point of view, the Colline Metallifere (Metalliferous Hills) and the Colline del Vapore (Hills of Steam) offer many unique scenarios, and the roads are particularly suitable for cyclists and cycle-tourists.

Splendid Solitude

The route to Sassetta follows the beautiful Prata and Annunziata roads, while the return route runs along a beautiful dirt road through the Poggio Neri park before heading back to Suvereto.
